TELOGS technicians at the E-Check
As befits a global technology leader, the warehouse in Wört is prepared for all eventualities with an 11-aisle high-bay warehouse. The on-site facility has a daily throughput of 20,000 cartons in receiving and another 20,000 cartons in shipping. In addition, there are around 1,000 pallet movements per dispatch and goods receipt. With these volumes and an operating time of almost 24/7, the demands on the availability of the plant are extremely high. In the meantime, the plant availability is at excellent values. When it comes to bearing maintenance, testing, repair and emergency repair, TE Connectivity has relied on a partnership with TELOGS GmbH from Wettenberg since 2017.
And runs, and runs, and runs …
TE Connectivity’s premises in Wört cover more than 67,000 square meters. The company develops and produces state-of-the-art connector and connector system technologies for standard applications as well as for special applications for leading companies in the automotive, household appliance and capital goods industries. To ensure receiving, shipping and availability of parts for production and finished products, the site has a 3,500 sq. ft. receiving area, 5,000 sq. ft. of high-bay storage and a 5,000 sq. ft. shipping area. In addition, the site has around 30,800 storage spaces in the form of pallet spaces (high-bay and in flow racks) and manual storage spaces. The storage and conveyor technology used, from the manufacturer Stöcklin, has been in service since 1998 and, apart from a break on Saturday night, runs 24 hours a day, almost 365 days a year. To ensure that excellent plant availability can continue to be realized, maintenance during operation is indispensable. Especially in the automotive sector, reliability and adherence to delivery dates are the top priority. A standstill in production due to delivery problems is unthinkable here. For this reason, too, it is important for TE Connectivity to have a reliable partner like TELOGS at its side, who reliably takes care of bearing maintenance, testing, repair and emergency repair.
Safety and economy combined
The warehouse and conveyor technology in Wört runs around the clock, apart from a short break once a week. The challenge for TELOGS GmbH was to ensure the high availability of the plant within these framework conditions and also to guarantee legal certainty for operation in accordance with the accident prevention regulations. TELOGS has managed to bring together safety and economic efficiency and to demonstrate the maximum potential of the plant. The intralogistics expert, which operates throughout Germany, quickly proved to be a reliable partner.
Better always goes
After TELOGS had already made a positive impression during the first customer contact, the partnership cooperation was quickly deepened and extended to other areas. In addition to the comprehensive services, the very high level of technical expertise and the above-average customer orientation were also decisive for a cooperation that has now lasted since 2017. An important requirement was the maintenance of the plant during operation. Which in turn ensures the best plant availability.
As a manufacturer-neutral partner for demanding intralogistics projects and all associated services, TE Connectivity was able to provide independent and expert advice. This has demonstrably reduced the costs for the necessary spare parts supply. Competent service technicians permanently assigned to the customer are just as familiar with the conditions on site as they are with the details of the plant. This saves valuable maintenance and response time. This advantage pays off if the plant should actually fail. The high availability as well as a fast response time make the difference to other service providers in case of emergency. In TE Connectivity’s case, the age of the storage and conveyor technology used also plays a role. The proven Stöcklin system has been in operation since 1998, which occasionally makes the procurement of spare parts a challenge. Here, TELOGS’ intralogistics experience and broad network offer significant advantages.
A first balance
Through maintenance and UVV inspections of the system during operation, TE Connectivity, together with TELOGS, was able to increase the availability of the warehouses and conveyor technology used. Unscheduled repairs have been reduced to a minimum and are now of little consequence thanks to the fast response times of the service staff. With TELOGS taking over key areas such as maintenance and repair planning, the global industrial technology leader has been able to scale down its own organizational overhead.
